The information on Clean Paws Diet (cleanpawsdiet.com) is provided for general educational and informational purposes only. It is not a substitute for professional veterinary advice, diagnosis or treatment.

By using this website, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this disclaimer.

1. Not Veterinary Advice

Clean Paws Diet is written by researchers and writers, not by your veterinarian. Our articles, recipes, feeding tables and product guides are general information about dogs as a group. They cannot take into account your dog's age, breed, weight, health conditions, medications or history.

  • Always ask your veterinarian before changing your dog's diet, adding supplements or feeding a new food, especially if your dog is a puppy, pregnant, senior, or has a medical condition (for example pancreatitis, kidney disease, diabetes, allergies or a sensitive stomach).
  • Never ignore professional veterinary advice, or delay seeking it, because of something you read on this website.

2. No Veterinarian-Client-Patient Relationship

Reading our content, using our recipes or feeding guidance, or contacting us does not create a veterinarian-client-patient relationship (VCPR) between you, your dog and Clean Paws Diet or any of its writers.

Emergencies and suspected poisoning

Clean Paws Diet is not an emergency service. If you think your dog has eaten something toxic (such as xylitol, chocolate, grapes or raisins, onions, garlic, macadamia nuts or a human medication), act immediately. Do not try home remedies or induce vomiting unless a veterinarian tells you to. Contact:

  • Your veterinarian or the nearest emergency animal hospital
  • ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center: (888) 426-4435 (24/7, a consultation fee may apply)
  • Pet Poison Helpline: (855) 764-7661 (24/7, a consultation fee may apply)

Outside North America, contact your local veterinarian or emergency animal clinic.

3. Individual Dogs React Differently

A food that is safe for most dogs may still cause problems for yours. Any food can trigger an allergy or stomach upset, and some foods can be a choking or blockage risk depending on size and preparation. When introducing something new, offer a small amount, prepare it safely (for example cut into small pieces and without seasoning), and watch your dog for the next 24 to 48 hours. Never feed cooked bones.

4. Recipes and Homemade Food

  • Our treat recipes are intended as occasional snacks. As a general guideline, treats should make up no more than about 10% of a dog's daily calories.
  • Unless clearly stated otherwise, our recipes are not complete and balanced diets according to AAFCO nutrient profiles and should not replace your dog's regular food.
  • If you want to feed a homemade diet long term, work with your veterinarian or a board-certified veterinary nutritionist, because unbalanced homemade diets can lead to nutrient deficiencies.

5. Accuracy and Changing Information

We work hard to keep our content accurate and up to date, but veterinary knowledge changes, products are reformulated and errors can happen. We make no guarantee that the information on this website is complete, current or error-free. Always check product labels and official sources such as the FDA recalls and withdrawals list and AAFCO.

Mentioning a product or brand is not a guarantee of its safety or suitability for your dog. Links to other websites are provided for convenience, and we are not responsible for their content. Some links may be affiliate links.

7. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Clean Paws Diet and its writers are not liable for any loss, injury or damage arising from the use of, or reliance on, information on this website. You are responsible for the decisions you make about your dog's care. See also our Terms of Use.
